How MSC Therapy Can Help with Multiple Sclerosis

Updated: Aug 19

Celltex kicked off Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Awareness Month by exploring how Mesenchymal Stem Cells (MSCs) can be used to help those with MS.

Recent studies have pointed to MSC therapy as a promising avenue for managing symptoms of MS thanks to the immunomodulating and regenerative properties that MSCs hold.

During MS flare-ups, the immune system mistakes the coating that protects the nerves (myelin) for foreign objects — causing an inflammatory response that damages the myelin and impairs the brain's ability to communicate with the body.

It’s thought that MSCs could help regulate the immune system while mitigating, or potentially repairing, the deterioration of the myelin.

Join this webinar as we explore a single question: “Can MSC therapy help with MS?”

We go over the research and our client-reported results before speaking with Celltex client Emma Oliveira-Monte about her results using MSCs to help with MS.

ABOUT THE GUEST:

Emma Oliveira-Monte, PhD

Celltex Client, Multiple Sclerosis

Emma Oliveira-Monte is a Vanderbilt professor whose busy lifestyle was jeopardized when she was diagnosed with MS in 2015. As her symptoms progressed, she had difficulty standing during lectures and traveling between classes and meetings.

After trying everything from conventional medications to HSCT, Emma came to Celltex hoping that MSC therapy could help her maintain her ability to walk.

She has since gone from being unable to lift her legs to walking to and from the classroom without needing a cane.
