To recognize Parkinson’s Awareness Month 2022, we decided to shed light on how you can be proactive in intervening against the neurological disorder.
The fatigue, the pain, the restrictions on movement, and the emotional and mental toll that this disease takes can be overwhelming and frustrating. It helps to know where to turn when faced with a diagnosis.
For this discussion, we had the privilege of sitting down with Celltex client Mark Richt, former University of Georgia and University of Miami head coach and current ACC Network analyst, to discuss his recent diagnosis and quick action to intervene in his Parkinson's progression with his own stem cells.
We also reviewed new data on Celltex client results for those with Parkinson's disease to give you a better idea of what others have seen in response to using their Celltex stem cells.
ABOUT THE GUESTS:
Mark Richt
Retired Collegiate Football Coach and Celltex Client with Parkinson's Disease
Mark Richt is a retired Power Five head football coach, former quarterback, and an analyst for the ACC Network. His time spent coaching at the University of Georgia, the University of Miami, and Florida State University was filled with a great amount of success. As a head coach, his teams won two SEC championships, five SEC division titles, and one ACC division title. He was named the SEC Coach of the Year in both 2002 and 2005, the ACC Coach of the Year in 2017, and Walter Camp Coach of the Year in 2017. However, his greatest coaching success comes from the impact he has had on his players as a leader and a mentor.
In May 2021, Richt was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease after noticing problems with balance and fatigue. Despite the difficult news, he has kept a positive outlook. He realizes the importance of staying mentally, physically, and socially active for managing the progression of symptoms. He does so with his television work as an analyst, his efforts to keep moving, and his social interactions with friends and family, including his two granddaughters who lovingly call him "Poohpa."
While it is still early in his Parkinson's diagnosis, Richt is doing whatever he can to stay in control of the symptoms. In this webinar, he shares how stem cells fit into these efforts.
Edward Munoz
Celltex Client, Parkinson's Disease
Edward was diagnosed with Parkinson's in 2017 after noticing mild numbness in his hands and fogginess in the head. Soon after his diagnosis, he began researching cellular therapies and decided to get his stem cells banked with Celltex. He received his first round of therapy in January 2018 and noticed symptom improvements a few months later.
5 years into his diagnosis, Edward still uses a combination of stem cell therapy, conventional medications, and physical therapy to manage the progression. The combination has helped him remain active as he continues his journey with PD.
